The refurbishment and extension of Northampton Museum & Art Gallery has transformed the building into a modern cultural destination, significantly increasing gallery space and enhancing the visitor experience, while supporting the regeneration of Northampton town centre.
The project required a façade solution that respected the museum’s historic context while supporting a contemporary extension and complex integration with adjacent buildings, including the former Gaol Block and Guildhall Road Block.
Generix Lite GRC was specified as the façade system, using Catcastle Buff Sandstone and Welsh Slate finishes to complement the surrounding architecture and provide a consistent material palette across the development.
Generix Lite Stone is a mechanically fixed rainscreen façade system using natural stone panels to deliver a traditional appearance with a reduced-weight and fast-installation solution.
The façade contributes to the project’s contemporary extension while maintaining a material connection to the building’s heritage, supporting the delivery of a high-quality cultural environment. The completed development has been recognised for its design and delivery, contributing to the wider regeneration of the town centre.
